It raises the question: what tattoo have you considered, or would you consider, adorning your body with? If I were to get a meaningful tattoo, it might be a “?” It’s a little deflated exclamation point that tends to lead you to more of its unanswered kind instead of to more definitive punctuation, such as a period. Questions often breed other questions. It’s funny how, if you stay curious, even answers can lead to more questions.
Be Curious About Possibilities
The reason I would add pigment to my as-yet blank skin is to constantly remind myself to be curious about possibilities. Curiosity prevents erroneous judgments based on incomplete information.
My judgments have proven error-prone enough that I can’t reliably believe I have many answers, if any. I consider it dangerous, to the point of being delusional, to believe that I might have “the” answer to anything. I prefer to stay in the shade of gray called “my opinion” or “an” answer. Time tests truths and few pass. Additional information can reduce a once-cherished belief to utter disbelief at the speed of thought.
Most likely, I’ll never get my “?” tattoo. It seems too lasting for someone who likes to change his mind often.
Magical Possibilities? Just Ask!
Here are some of my favorite “?”s. They are from the land of magical possibilities.
How can…?
What if…?
I wonder…?
Is it possible…?
I hope you have many favorite “?”s. They can serve as travel agents to worlds only you can imagine.
