The RMP Master Training Curriculum
Before Lesson 1, you’ll introduce yourself, set up your RMP Hub account, and complete your own Reiss Motivation Profile® and individual application session. It’s hard to explain the 16 basic desires to a client until you’ve seen your own.
Lesson 1: The Science of Motivation®
Who Professor Steven Reiss was and how IDS Publishing Corporation fits in. What makes us tick, what makes us individuals, why we argue, and how to achieve values-based happiness. How the 16 desires were identified, and whether the RMP is reliable and valid.
Lesson 2: Motivational Principles of The Science of Motivation®
The five characteristics of a basic desire. How needs are satisfied, how motives and traits connect, and how basic desires play out in relationships. Also the norms of the RMP, including the re-norming report.
Lesson 3: RMP Versus Other Tools
How 16 basic desires theory compares with other motivational theories and assessments, and why you’d choose an RMP. This lesson includes The Science of Motivation® Comprehensive Review Exam.
Lesson 4: Administering the RMP
How to administer the RMP, then interpret and communicate the scores. You’ll learn the RMP Masters Hub dashboard, how to prepare RMP documents, and how to conduct an individual RMP application session. Practical exercises include Understanding Your Values, Frame of Reference, Won’t Will Want To, the Reframe Game and Creating Your Motivational Ecosystem.
Lesson 5: Applying RMP Results
Visualizing a values-system, the What Matters to Me worksheet, motivational misbelief makers, building motivationally friendly ecosystems, and willpower and self-control.
Lesson 6: Complete a Live RMP Profile
Your first client RMP individual application session.
Lesson 7: Ethical Use and Branding of the RMP
How to use the RMP responsibly, and how to market your services within the brand rules.
Lesson 8: Complete and Record Two RMP Application Sessions
Practice with a friend or an adult family member. You’ll record two application sessions and upload them, with your RMP documents.
Lesson 9: Final Summary Discussion with Your Instructor
We meet live to review your work and wrap up your certification. This session is in addition to your two scheduled one-hour Zoom sessions.
Participants agree not to use artificial intelligence (AI) to complete assignments. The work is yours, so the skill is yours.
Who Qualifies
The Reiss Motivation Profile® is a psychological assessment that measures a person’s intrinsic motives, leading to insights about core values, personality traits and behavior. To use it properly, a Certified RMP Master needs to know:
- the RMP’s scientific development
- its underlying theoretical constructs
- how to administer it
- its norms and interpretive principles
An RMP Master should also have a reasonable degree of professional experience working with clients.
So, to enroll, you should have:
- Shown you can succeed in college-level coursework. That can be a college degree, successful participation in college classes, relevant professional certifications, or a history of successful work experience in business or athletics.
- At least one year of experience working with the type of clients you’d give the RMP to.
- Residence in North America.
Professionals who enroll include:
- certified executive, career and life coaches
- certified human resources professionals
- organizational development professionals
- certified learning and development professionals
- management and executive development consultants
- mental and physical health professionals
- in some cases, marketing and advertising professionals
Academic and business researchers are welcome too.
Keeping Your Certification Active
A skill you don’t use gets rusty. RMP Masters are expected to stay proficient with the RMP, so recertification is required if 24 calendar months pass since the last RMP you used. The refresher course costs $300.
After You’re Certified
When you finish, you’re a certified Reiss Motivation Profile® Master, qualified to use the RMP for Business with your individual clients. Here’s what comes next:
- Join the graduates list. Your name can be added to the academy’s public list of certified RMP Masters.
- Stay active. Recertification is required if 24 calendar months pass since the last RMP you used. The refresher course costs $300.
- Buy RMPs for your clients. You buy them directly from IDS Publishing Corporation at its published annual RMP Masters price.
- Show your credential. You’ll receive the IDS RMP Master badge.
- Keep me in your corner. For 12 months after you’re certified, you can consult with me at no charge. Bring me a tricky profile or a client conversation you’re preparing for, and we’ll think and talk it through together.
